pattern forming - day 7 [01 Jan 2009|01:17pm]
The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.
  • Date Walnut cake from The Chocolate Kiss! So buttery~
  • Beethoven's Symphony No.7 in A Major! Most probably, this is because of S-Oke (<3).
  • Ang salitang "miron".
  • HAPPY NEW YEAR! Stay safe, healthy and interested in the world~

aba'y pati day 7 ata isisiksik na - days 5 and 6 [31 Dec 2008|12:01am]
The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.
Ayun nga, patuloy ang pagtangkang magYear In Review.

DOUSHITEEEEEE!? - day 3 [27 Dec 2008|11:38pm]
The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.
  • I had fun being with ciudad and her sister at Trinoma today (the cupcakes are delicious and are now highly coveted in this household.) We watched Desperadas 2, wherein a magical negro saves everyone. The best part of the entire Desperadas experience was watching it with them <3
  • ROOKIES! My computer always stops me from finishing ep 1, but I'm determined to finish it!
  • ETA: Danielle glomped me~ It's been a while since I've been glomped.
And now, two songs from Kumpas - An Orchestral Celebration of Filipino Music.
Filharmonika w/ Ely Buendia - Ang Huling El Bimbo
Filharmonika w/ Jett Pangan - Salamat

but you're his stalker! - day 2 [26 Dec 2008|09:06am]
The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.
  • [info]mushroom18 's Christmas art post <3
  • Nodame Cantabile!!!! The logic! The faces! The music! Nodame! Minase! ciudad humayo ka na't manood!
  • Amigurumi~ I'm working pretty hard to be able to make one of those before the end of the break.
  • Cakes that have alcoholic content. I'm not drunk but between crocheting for hours and eating those things, I'm pretty dizzy right now.
  • Eartha Kitt.

this meme may no longer claim to be elegantly timed - day 1 [25 Dec 2008|11:56pm]
The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.
</random Orochimaru>
  • Flight of the Conchords S2!!!
  • The opportunity to explain some of the things about Filipino archaeology and heritage that I have had the honor of learning as a UP student. This came to me when my aunt decided to strike up a conversation about the difference between Anthropology and Archaeology. I may have not been so effective at conveying and instilling a sense of pride and/or excitement, but this gave me an idea of what I ought to do in the future to further my cause. I am also pleased to note that I was enthusiastic to answer her questions; sometimes I suspect that I would hide away from those kinds of things.
  • Revisiting Usog, Pasma, Kulam by Michael L. Tan
  • Red Cross games, such as Prisoners of War. I initially expected something a bit more macabre. It's actually a quiz-like game that I enjoyed as an Aid nerd and fan of hand-drawn things.
  • My relatives <3
This day was not a very lucky one for my family. Fortunately, it had been kind to me; it had allowed me to remain hopeful enough such that we all would not run amok at around the same time.

Uuuuy nakanood ng TDK [10 Aug 2008|08:18pm]
Batman The Musical? WOW MERON! Or at least, it was in the works and you can get mp3s of the songs from the site. I am downloading as I type this entry.

As for The Dark Knight, hayop. I regret not having several free hours immediately after the movie to stare at a wall to let the whole movie sink in.

Um. Maganda rin yung Jay! Di ko lang natapos.

...indexical sign-vehicles point from an origin that is established in, by and "at" their occurring as the here-and-now "center" or tail, as it were, of a semiotic arrow." (Silverstein, 1992 in Duranti, 1997)

I did not understand this passage intuitively.

Sige na nga, tawad pa eh. Di ko nagets period.

A series of articles on Filipino folklore about the stars. Folklore, in Tagalog, is kaalamang bayan. I think that's a clearer way of describing what the articles are all about. Wherein Orion's belt is part of a weapon and there are magsasaka, mangingisda and mangangaso in the sky.

'Mamahi ': Stars of Tawi-Tawi

Balátik and Moropóro Stars of Philippine skies

Vanishing stars in the Manobo skies

Wala lang, I was not aware of any of these things.

she fell out/her broken legs won't let her walk away [07 Jun 2008|07:51pm]
WTF ulop? What is it this time?

Songs from Analog Heart (David Cook's 2006 Indie Release)

1. Straight Ahead
Sounds like: An uplifting rock song. Advice from David Cook that could be taken metaphorically and literally.
Noteworthy Lyric: And think of everything you wanted/And what you got instead Joke lang! None, really. But the melody is pleasant. Not a bad song to get to know David Cook through.

2. Silver
Makes You Believe: It's brooding piano rock and David Cook's artistic self-criticism (e.g. 'I am struggling to improve my craft; I apologize if this is not quite the listening experience you expected')
Until: He starts singing about your memories and how miserable he is without you to some rock music and impressive back-up vocals.
Good: Lyrics that are decent most of the time.
Bad: Flat, plodding chorus.

3. Searchlights
Lyrical Summary: When everything around is broken could you say that this felt right?
What it does: Show off how high he could go and how long he could hold it.
Also: Interesting percs.
Title In Context: Where did you hide yourself/For these searchlights are going dim
HUH?: Your life has served you well/But everyone around has perished from this fire that you've lit under me

BONUS DAW! Porcelain
Sounds Like: Kind of angry headbanger for crying people (magkakatabi yung tracks na pwede mong i-describe as such)
Noteworthy Lyric: We grow older but nothing ever seems to change
Lyrics A Bit After That: The cracks in your smile make it impossible to decipher something legible.
Good: ZOMG GUILTY PLEASURE. As far as my working brain is concerned, there are only a few discernible merits to this song and I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE. And yet paulit ulit ko itong pinakikinggan.

Uploaded for sigarilyo but as usual, that is code for 'anyone can take it!' She asked me to pick the songs I liked best. Confession: I went with the ones I didn't mind finishing and listening to again. I don't want this entry to be a David Cook showcase. The selection here simply does not live up to the expectations his performances of 'Eleanor Rigby' and 'Billie Jean' set up in my mind. Plus, I am not a fan of sensitive rock. Also, take note that the subject line of this entry is a Cook lyric.

I heard somewhere that he named this album 'Analog Heart' because he has an old-fashioned heart. I can believe that these songs are sincere and draw from his own experiences. His stuff here shows us that he is a well-adjusted young man. The songs are well-produced and amicable listening but nothing I haven't heard before.

All this having been said, I am willing to share some of the other songs with you guys. Go ahead, look up the track listing and pick a song you want me to upload. If it's any help, the song titles usually show up in the song body.

---

Most damning insight on life that I've picked up from Filipino television:

Hindi ako galit sa yo. Galit ako sa ginawa mo!

---

I'd just like to say that I am looking for this album.

MCWORDY [13 Feb 2008|11:13am]
[ mood | giving! ]

I have abandoned having intellectual angst in favor of sharing! Yay that sounds so healthy!

1. I was with sigarilyo  and her Kas1 groupmates last week and, while joking around, it became apparent that none of us had ever seen or remember seeing Jose Rizal smiling.

WELL TODAY! Thanks to An Anarchy of Families (ed. McCoy, Ateneo de Manila University Press, 2007) I get to safely claim otherwise~ AND YOU DO TOO!

OH BOY RIZAL SMILING (that is not a whitehead on his cheek)! From a photo from Juan Luna's studio, provided by Mita Pardo de Tavera.

2. I am amused to see Ric Flair's luxuriant platinum blonde mullet on my TV screen. Maxxx (which replaced JackTV or JACKtv) is making up for the absence of present wrestling television by selling how they have, instead, WWE24/7 and therefore, more footage of Austin and The Rock. YES, BUT DO THEY HAVE THE CAUITONARY PSAs? AND I AM NOT TERRIBLY INTERESTED IN MORE FOOTAGE OF HOGAN.

3. Stars - In Our Bedroom After The War - I find that this song manages to express the anticlimax just after the end of one thing and the excitement before the beginning of another. Fittingly, the song begins with mournful vocals with piano and is driven by a steady, pounding rhythm towards a rich, grand-sounding end. The short of it is: pretty sounding. Has also been described once as creepy but I do not agree.

4. DEATH BY VESPA JAPONICA! Between being in the AMAZINGLY IMAGINATIVE Stargate:Atlantis fandom and having dreamed of being chased by a red snake and a man with a shotgun who was also being pursued by a diamond-back, HOW IS IT THAT I HAD NEVER CONTEMPLATED AN ANIMAL-RELATED DEATH BEFORE? I mean other than some more "common sense" reasons, I always thought I had an extensive library of imagined deaths.

New Lang Syne [04 Jan 2008|05:02pm]
OK Go - It's Tough To Have A Crush - This song starts with a couple of people giggling and sighing dreamily. That's fairly appropriate since this does sound like the kind of song to do that to (in the afternoon). But most of all I love the fluttery little piano solo towards the end of the song; to me it sounds like that funny melting feeling I associate with crushing upon people.

SPECIFICALLY FOR sigarilyo  OMG!
Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek - If you first heard this song (or part of it) from The O.C. or, more infamously, SNL, it's probably hard to get over how funny 'Hmmwatcha saaaay?' sounds. But this song is just so vibrant and still and quiet. In a non-"Hey, it involves mixing and stuff" way, it's all voice. It's REALLY WORTH IT DESCARTES.

(reprise) [30 Sep 2007|08:27am]
I had a great time yesterday. I will miss my documentary groupmates and like the many balls I have had with sigarilyo   , I had one last night. Now I have to stop angsting about it being over and my problems and shit. I imagine this is how that guy in Roel Cortez' Napakasakit, Kuya Eddie would feel if he had a good day too.

Ben Folds Five - Still Fighting It
The ever-wonderful Sugarfree performed this song last night at the Music Museum with the Manila Symphonic Orchestra. Ebe Dancel (on keyboards for this number) dedicated the performance to his nephew, whom we heard from the audience telling him to hurry up and start before the number and thanking him after the number.

High School Musical 2 Cast - You Are The Music In Me
I wonder where the people who want to study this musical are. I can't remember what I had in mind at that time but I thought the thesis of the song (may pathesis-thesis pa akong nalalaman ha) was interesting. This is a feel-good song, pretty good with the chanting young people and the rocking piano. I was determined to dislike the musical, but this song is stuck on me. I wish Lucas Grabeel could have his version of the song though; then the voices would be infinitely better.

ETA (for sigarilyo  and claire_chanteur ) Lucas Grabeel - Go the Distance
To me this compares to the movie version (which I love for sounding so earnest) the way the Josh G. Abrahams remix of Come What May compares with the radio track; I like them both, but their separate appeals are so different. Maybe it's in the way this version of the song is played, or whatever.

Panalo! [23 Jul 2007|01:14am]
[ mood | waiting ]

Waiting for a SONA 2007 broadcast (why yes, I was in pursuit of an arbitrary broadcast) I happened upon a talk segment about a breast enhancement (huh?) product on Winner TV on RPN. I don't really want to imagine what made me stop there for a bit longer than I did the other channels; maybe I was trying to be observant, maybe I wanted to "laugh bitterly" and "despair", maybe I wanted my breasts enhanced. Or you know, because the broadcast could come on at any minute.

The segment featured three women. I think two of them were hosts and the third one was either there to give her testimony or to serve as one. At the time I came upon it, one of the hosts was sharing a story about a friend who nearly died after getting silicone implants. The other two women hummed after this, and I like to think there was a brief moment of silence before the other host asked "Why do we even have to have bigger breasts anyway?"

Again, I think there was a bit of silence after this, then one of them replied "Aesthetics." She went on to elaborate, saying that people say though you might have a pretty face, if you have "an A-cup, you know, for your breasts" then you aren't as pretty. The other one, the one with the friend with the implants of doom, said "Well, some men like women with big breasts." then she made a cupping gesture in the air close to her breasts. Then the weird question got out of the way at which point I think they were going to show the bottle to the camera. Or something.

I guess I just felt like sharing it because I got upset.

Between the fifth movie (which I did not dislike as much as I imagined I would) and book seven, I'm feeling sentimental about Harry Potter. Even after being detached from the world of HP in general after a year or so.

[ mood | IF YOU CAN SMERURURURURU-AH ]

Random video shit again:

This video completes it, but just because youtube is unkind to dial-up and because it stands to be transcoded, HERE is an mp3 version of Alanis Morisette covering My Humps by Black Eyed Peas. You knaves who cannot rap may now know what it is to... uh..."funk out" to My Humps. Whatever it is you comely teenyboppers say.

Four minute fight scene with David Keith and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper from the movie They Live (1988). This is basically Piper getting a guy to try on his sunglasses. No kidding. I love Piper and I love this fight scene, but even with the context, I can't really say the premise makes sense.

---

I guess I piss myself off because I never tag. I had a ball yesterday so now these are all my feelings: I wish my sister would blog again or make a PowerPoint presentation of her feelings, I'm a little concerned about pre-enlistment, I'm full.

Also, because I do not rike feerings of reft oust:
drawing personality
What does your drawing say about YOU?

The results of your analysis say:

You tend to pursue many different activities simultaneously. When misfortune does happen, it doesn't actually dishearten you all that much.
You are a direct and forthright person. You like to get to the core of the issue right away, with few signs of hesitation.
You like following the rules and being objective. You are precise and meticulous, and like to evaluate decisions before making them.
You have a sunny, cheerful disposition.

Don't feel like dancing [30 Mar 2007|09:41am]

King Of The Road

I'm still looking for the one where Big Pete runs over Mahatma Ghandi. TRUE FEERINGS about driving?

Wrestling:

Glen Jacobs is awesome. I rarely see him wrestle or cut promos anymore, which is a crying shame. Here he is as himself wrestling in Japan and here he is as Kane cutting a kickass promo.

Random shit:

Hulk Hogan in a Japanese commercial. Yeah, so inside and outside of wrestling Hogan's a lol a minute, but I wish I understood this commercial. Herp me?

Jump In My Car. From the king of the internet himself, David Hasselhoff.

MS102 with Helena Yap = first time I got to understand why people still have second thoughts about global warming. Wala lang, I thought that was great. For a second there I was ready to save my family a spot on Hogan's back. This is probably my way of plugging the subject, but the last time I managed to sell my friends on taking certain subjects, they had a shitty time.

Makes me wonder what's in the book. Also, other link spamming business, Boy in Delhi eaten by pigs (old news) and a rec of the Boostle (Booster Gold/Blue Beetle) nature.

LOL R DOSE SONGS? [24 Nov 2006|04:50am]
Why yes they are! Hey listen, it's not time for Magic Words yet. So here I am, reaming my connection.

01: Josh Groban - My December
Josh Groban does Linkin' Park. If you were not aware, My December is actually a pretty sedate LP song so don't wonder.

02: Some Michael - Anghang
Either Michael V. or another Michael [soundclick], apparently does My Humps. Not really sure about that. Two arabs (or whichever race we Filipinos think of when we say Arabo) arguing about spicy food.

03: 12 Cellists of Berlin Philharmonic - Norwegian Wood
Instrumental cover of The Beatles. I just didn't want to type the name of the artists again.

04: Brownbeat All-Stars - Maru
Lots of head-shaking funnnn and happyjoy brass. The vocalist's song for her newborn.

ETA Rachael Yamagata - Moments with Oliver
I should be studying (mmm... arguing white guys), but instead I am putting up these songs. Another instrumental, this Oliver fellow is the cellist of the artist.

[24 Nov 2006|04:21am]
This post partially inspired by claire_chanteur. Uy, peace tayo ha! Now, there is a specific group of people which will understand the topmost contents of this post... and a specific group of people which will just bring it up the next time they see me.

The only thing I want for Christmas is... IS A LITTLE MORE (good) PORN, PEOPLE. IS THAT SO HARD TO ASK FOR OMG. HERE'S A WAY TO THROW IT AT ME: GIVE ME A PRIMER OF THE PLAYAZ IN THE SNUFF, AND I'LL BE SO HAPPY I LOSE HAIR FOR WHATEVER IT IS YOU GAVE ME, REST ASSURED :DDDD. Do/Don't go to xtube, youtube's hemhem sick uncle. There is way more gay porn on it than straight.

No, really? An mp3 player will do. Drive (D:) (notice the sad face) is now only 5 gigs in size thanks to all these motherfuckin songs, and I would like to keep it all somewhere else that won't only be useful when I turn the computer on. I have all these songs because they each remind me of something and so, more or less, have some dorky history attached to them. Yes, sigarilyo, even Riddle.

My mother just came home from the hospital yesterday, told me stories. I don't have a song for it, unfortunately. Well I don't always hear a song for everything. For some reason, seeing and holding her swollen hand was the worst part of everything. There is something about it. I don't know.
